3 Home Runs for Watkins Friday, June 4th , 2032 Players don't hit three home runs in a game very often and when they do, it is something to celebrate. After today, Carson Watkins can celebrate. The Whistler Avalanche first baseman powered three into the stands at Rough Rider Stadium today against the Southern Maryland Blue Claws. "It's rare that you actually try to hit a home run," Watkins told reporters after the game. "Most of the time you fail, if you really try to hit one. But today, I was really trying on that last one." In all, he was 3-for-6 as the Avalanche toppled Southern Maryland by a score of 16-5, knocking in 5 runs and scoring 3 times. "He is blessed with a natural home run swing," Whistler manager Garrett Shine said. "He gets the ball up in the air." Carson Watkins hit a two-run home run off Jorge Escobedo in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, grounded out in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Sang-Seung Mun in the 6th, struck out in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Augusto Mireles in the 9th. So far this year Watkins has hit .305 with 16 home runs, 57 RBIs and 47 runs scored. |
