Darren Byrd Sidelined for Season
Friday, May 6th , 2005
When AZL reliever Darren Byrd was taken out of the game, the crowd at the Giants-Brewers game went silent as they could tell that it was a serious injury. That was confirmed today by doctors when they revealed that Byrd had sustained a torn flexor tendon in his elbow and will be out for about 14 months.

This year, Byrd has earned 2 saves, worked 4.1 innings, fanned 5 hitters and recorded a 4.15 ERA. He has also put up a 1-1 won-lost mark.

Cook Packs a Wallop -- Hits 3 HR Against Cardinals
Wednesday, May 4th , 2005
Chris Cook went on an explosive hitting spree against the Johnson City Cardinals at Cardinal Park, launching a trio of blasts to help the Danville Braves win, 29-3.

The first baseman finished 5-for-7 with 6 runs scored and 8 RBI.

"It was just one of those days," Cook said in a postgame interview. "I don't know how to explain it. I'm just putting a good swing on the ball."

Johnson City skipper Uzun Melen said Cook was "locked-in."

"We made some pretty good pitches," he said. "Those first two homers were exactly where the pitcher wanted to put them. He's just hot right now -- you've just got to tip your hat to him."

Chris Cook flied out in the 1st, struck out in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit a three-run home run off Jim Unknown in the 4th, walked in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Jim Unknown in the 7th, singled in the 8th and hit a three-run home run off Jim Unknown in the 9th.

This season in 20 games, Cook has hit at a .368 clip with 14 hits, 4 home runs, 13 RBIs and 14 runs scored.
