Bruce Batters Yakima Big Time
Wednesday, August 3rd , 2005
The Billings Mustangs stopped the Yakima Bears by a score of 12-10 at Yakima County Stadium, with the lion's share of the credit going to shortstop Derek Bruce. The 23-year-old had a career day, collecting 5 hits.

"Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate," Bruce said later. "He wants to hit the ball hard."

Bruce did just that in his 6 at-bats, much to the chagrin of the Bears.

"Not much that I can say," offered Yakima manager Aldo Cortez. "He just hammered the heck out of us."

Derek Bruce singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and flied out in the 9th.

For the year, Bruce is hitting .306 with 4 home runs. His stats include 14 RBI and 39 runs scored.
