Red Stixx Chill Abruzzo Hot Streak
Thursday, July 14th , 2005
It was the best of both worlds for the Columbus Red Stixx at Watt Powell Park, as they defeated the Charleston AlleyCats, 5-4, and also snapped Jared Abruzzo's 20-game hitting streak. The 23-year-old Charleston catcher failed to get a hit in 1 at-bat.
"Nothing personal against Abruzzo, we just wanted to win the game," said Red Stixx skipper Allen Dumais. "We did a great job keeping him off-balance and guessing."
When asked by reporters about his streak coming to an end, Abruzzo frowned and said, "I won't lie and say that I'm not disappointed about it, but I'd feel much better if we had won."
In the 2005 season Abruzzo is hitting .332 with 18 home runs.
