Howell Slaps 5 Hits

No matter what the Daytona Cubs threw at him, Joey Howell hit it. He easily handled Cubs pitching, going 5 for 5 and helping the Avalanche triumph, 9-7, at Salem Memorial Stadium .
"The way I was swinging, I think I could have closed my eyes and hit the ball," he told BNN reporters in the postgame interview.
Told of Howell's quip, Cubs skipper Tony Greenwell said he "would take him up on that next time."
Joey Howell singled in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Andrew Walker in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
To date, Howell has collected 34 hits for a .318 average. He has posted 12 home runs, scored 25 runs and driven in 24 runs.
