Gamel Booms 3 out of the Park
Saturday, May 7th , 2005
The fans at Mavericks Stadium witnessed Mat Gamel write his name into the league record book with three home runs, but the South Bend Silver Hawks still dropped the decision to the High Desert Mavericks, 17-7.
"I've always loved hitting in Mavericks Stadium," Gamel said, speaking with reporters after the game. "You can see the ball so well. I'm glad I got the homers, but three hits and a win would have been nicer."
For the day, he collected 4 hits in 4 at-bats, scored 3 runs and had 4 RBIs.
Mat Gamel hit a two-run home run off Brad Haynes in the 1st, singled in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Brad Haynes in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off Amad Stephens in the 8th.
Thus far this season, Gamel is hitting .380 with 6 home runs, 16 RBIs and 15 runs scored. He has 30 hits in 79 at-bats and has played in 26 games.

Martinez Tosses 5-0 Shutout
Wednesday, May 4th , 2005
"That was one of my best outings," said Gregorio Martinez. "I was worried a lot in the bullpen. My ball wasn't quite right. Luckily, it can be two different worlds -- the bullpen and the game. Once I stepped on the field, it all fell into place."
It was an impressive start for the Dodgers hurler. He blanked the Hammerheads, 5-0, on a strong 2-hitter while ringing up 8 strikeouts and doling out no walks.
Martinez has started 4 times this year, pitched 24 innings, fanned 21 batters and walked 5. His current record is 3 wins and 1 loss with a 3.00 ERA.

5-for-6 Day for Valido
Wednesday, May 4th , 2005
The High Desert Mavericks stopped the Mudville Nine by a score of 12-3 at Billy Hebert Field, with the lion's share of the credit going to shortstop Robert Valido. The 19-year-old had a career day, collecting 5 hits.
"Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate," Valido said later. "He wants to hit the ball hard."
Valido did just that in his 6 at-bats, much to the chagrin of the Nine.
"Not much that I can say," offered Mudville manager Jeremy Robinson. "He just hammered the heck out of us."
Robert Valido flied out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit a two-run single in the 8th.
So far this year, Valido has hit .284 with 2 home runs, 11 RBIs and 13 runs scored.
