Cruz Jacks 3 into the Stands

Jupiter Hammerheads shortstop Luis Cruz left the South Bend pitching staff in ruins at Coveleski Stadium, beating the Silver Hawks, 12-5, with a prodigious three-home run performance.

"The last one was totally unexpected," Cruz told reporters at the press conference following his big game. "I just wanted to make good contact, never thinking I would get a home run, and bang, I got number three."

For the game, the Jupiter shortstop had 3 hits in 5 at-bats, drove in 9 and scored 4 runs.

Luis Cruz hit a three-run home run off Mario Ledesma in the 1st, was hit by a pitch in the 3rd, hit a GRAND SLAM off Rodrigo Hirota in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Edgar Ahumada in the 5th, flied out in the 7th and flied out in the 8th.

In 53 games this season, Cruz is batting .309 with 58 hits and 16 home runs. He has scored 34 runs and driven in 56.
