Gone Again! 3 HR for Cruz Thursday, August 21st , 2031 Blue Mountain Eagles catcher Víctor Cruz put on a dazzling display of power today at Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth against the Wakeland Walleye. In the 8-6 Eagles victory Cruz penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts. "He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Wakeland manager Bob Athey said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well." Along with his three home runs, the 15-year-old had 4 hits in 4 at-bats, 7 RBIs and 3 runs scored. "Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Cruz said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today." Víctor Cruz hit a two-run home run off Bill Taintey in the 2nd, hit a three-run home run off Bill Taintey in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off Dave Brown in the 8th. So far this year Cruz is batting .337 with 21 home runs. |
