Zúñiga Laces 3 HR Against Elma Saturday, August 16th , 2031 Huntington Beach Sharks first baseman Gustavo Zúñiga put on a dazzling display of power today at Bannerwood Park against the Elma Eagles. In the 11-8 Sharks victory Zúñiga penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts. "He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Elma manager Patrick Jones said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well." Along with his three home runs, the 15-year-old had 3 hits in 5 at-bats, 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored. "Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Zúñiga said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today." Gustavo Zúñiga hit a solo-shot off Senzo Aoki in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Al Harrison in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Lucas Molendijk in the 7th, walked in the 8th and struck out in the 9th. A look at his season totals shows Zúñiga with 49 home runs, .405 BA, .448 OBP, 113 RBIs and 98 runs scored. |
