Downey Shuts Down Jaguars, 8-0 Friday, May 16th , 2031 It wasn't easy but Zachary Downey made it look that way. Downey silenced the DeSoto Central Jaguars, 8-0, in a Loomis Chaffee Pelicans triumph at St. Petersburg HS Grounds today. Despite the appearance of dominance, Downey said later that he felt like he was struggling all game. He gave up 2 walks and 6 hits. "It didn't feel quite right today, but I made the decision to bear down and work through it," he said. "I made a few mistakes but it goes to show what you can do with grit and not much else." Downey has taken the mound for 5 relief appearances this season, nailing down no saves while notching a 1-0 record with a 3.74 ERA.
