Peña Booms 3 Homers Wednesday, June 23rd , 2032 His swing was a thing of beauty. Three times Raúl Peña swung the bat and three times he delivered a home run. It was an awesome sight to behold at Pokey Reddick Park, but to no avail, for as good as he was, the Bardo A's were better. The Truckee Mugs couldn't capitalize on the big game from Peña and dropped the contest 9-8. The mood in the Mugs clubhouse afterward was subdued, with several players remarking that they had allowed the A's to spoil the day for Peña. "Some of the boys are beating themselves up about it," Truckee manager Alfredo Guerrero said. "They know we win as a team and lose as a team, but it's hard to really put that idea into practice on a day when one of you was playing on such an obviously higher level." In addition to the homers, Peña collected 6 RBIs and scored 3 runs. "I got three pitches down the pipe and popped them," the Truckee left fielder told reporters. "Today I was in a groove. Tomorrow I could just pop the same pitches up and go 0-for-3." Raúl Peña hit a two-run home run off Dan Harris in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Dan Harris in the 4th, flied out in the 6th, hit a three-run home run off Dani Garza in the 7th and doubled in the 9th. In 67 games this season Peña has compiled a .331 batting average with 89 hits and 15 home runs. He has also scored 53 times and knocked in 62 runs. |
