Loen Strokes 3 HR Against Del Mar Saturday, July 3rd , 2032 St. Lucie Mets right fielder Virgil Loen put on a dazzling display of power today at Googleplex against the Del Mar Blowfish. In the 15-2 Mets victory Loen penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts. "He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Del Mar manager Danny Graves said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well." Along with his three home runs, the 20-year-old had 3 hits in 5 at-bats, 6 RBIs and 3 runs scored. "Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Loen said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today." Virgil Loen hit a solo-shot off Mike O'Farrell in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, hit a three-run home run off Dae-ki Yi in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off Bob Águila in the 8th. Looking at his season stats, Loen has compiled a .370 batting average and a .472 on-base percentage, while hitting 7 home runs and driving in 29 runs. |
