Armas Razzle-Dazzles with No-Hitter
Sunday, July 17th , 2005
In a dominant outing, Tony Armas of the Los Angeles Dodgers totally silenced the bats of the New York Mets, finishing with a no-hitter.
In the 7-0 victory, Armas faced only 29 batters, surrendered no hits, had 7 strikeouts and 2 walks.
"Honestly, I didn't even know the situation was what it was until the seventh inning," Los Angeles manager Jim Tracy said. "I happened to look up there to see how many hits we had gotten, and I happened to notice that they hadn't gotten any."
Commenting on the defeat, losing manager Bobby Valentine had a "pretty simple" analysis of the game.
"The Dodgers had all the hits and all the runs, so they won," he snapped. "But yeah, Armas pitched a heck of a ballgame."
This season, Armas has compiled a 11-5 mark, 3.26 ERA and made 21 starts.
