Whalers Suffer 5-3 Setback
The Hartford Whalers got a superb performance from pitcher David Kennedy. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Death Valley. The Buzzards won the game, 5-3. Kennedy threw 5.2 innings of 1-hit ball. Josh Hader earned the save for Death Valley, his 37th. With the win, Death Valley pushed its record to 83-78.

Death Valley took a 5-3 lead on Shumei Yamaguchi's 3rd double of the season. The 2-run double, which Yamaguchi hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Hartford pitcher George Connolly visibly frustrated.

Yamaguchi called the win "a collective effort."
