Whalers Lose By a Run at Echo Park, 4-3
The Echo Park Lakers scored a tight 4-3 win versus the Hartford Whalers at Staples Center. Echo Park pitcher Bob Mason held his own in the contest. Mason got the win, improving to 2-2. He allowed 8 hits and walked 2 over 8 innings. Mason allowed 3 runs. Wes McDonald closed the game out for Echo Park, earning his 1st save.

The Lakers got a big at-bat from left fielder José Negrón. For the game, Negrón went 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 33rd home run of the season gave Echo Park a 3-1 lead.
