Kokawa 5-for-5 Against 1777
|
Fans at DoubleHump Field got to see not only a home-team victory today, but also one of the most impressive feats of hitting of the season.
The Atlantic Schooners outplayed the Santa Clara 1777 en route to a 10-6 win, but the standout was first baseman Masaharu Kokawa. Kokawa netted 5 hits in 5 at-bats and finished with a dynamite game line.
"Hey, we tried everything we could think of to get him out," 1777 manager Júlio Ramos said in postgame comments. "We threw everything but the kitchen sink against him and he hit it. Maybe we should've thrown the sink, too."
Masaharu Kokawa doubled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Bartolo López in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and walked in the 8th.
This year Kokawa has socked 46 hits in 183 at-bats for a .251 average with 7 home runs. He is getting on base at a .343 pace and his totals also include 19 RBIs and 37 runs scored.
