Tike Redman made an impact in the 6-4 Pittsburgh win over Detroit. Redman went 2-5 with a home run and a double, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once. The win went to Mike Connolly in relief, making him now 7-6. Joel Pineiro took the loss for Detroit. Damaso Marte closed it out for Pittsburgh, earning his 36th save.

Redman had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the sixth. On a first pitch fastball from Ian Ostlund, he banged a grand slam home run to left, giving the Pirates a 5-2 lead. It was the 8th home run of the year for Redman.

"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Redman.

The 6th-place Pirates now have a win-loss record of 89-73.
