Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers.

Texas pinch hitter Kevin Mench helped his team beat the Detroit Tigers, 5-4. Mench went 1 for 1 for the Rangers. The win belonged to Kevin Jepsen in relief. His record improves to 4-5. Buddy Groom took the loss for Detroit.

Mench had a timely hit for Texas in the top of the ninth. With Texas trailing 3-2, he turned a 2-1 fastball into a 3-run home run. It was his 17th home run of the season, making it 5-3, Texas.

Texas manager Mark LeBlanc called it "a good, solid win."
