The Cleveland Guardians used a great performance from 26-year old left-handed pitcher Brandon Matheny to beat the Anaheim Angels, 3-1, at Edison International Field. Matheny got the win, improving to 12-9. He gave up 3 hits and walked 3 over 6.1 innings. He allowed 1 run. Danys Baez recorded the save, making him 34 for 38.

Damian Jackson, who finished 4th in the VBL in triples with 9 last year, had a direct impact on the outcome. Jackson contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth inning to put Cleveland up, 3-1.

"Every loss hurts," said Anaheim manager Mike Scioscia. "But this was a tough one."

With the win, Cleveland goes to 74-80, while the Angels fall to 89-65.
