Braves Take Tight Tangle
|
The Atlanta Braves downed the Seattle Mariners, 2-1, at Safeco Field. Stellar pitching by Ryan Rupe had a lot to do with it. The right-hander handcuffed his opponent all game. Atlanta reliever Antonio Osuna picked up the win, upping his record to 5-0. Rett Johnson absorbed the loss. The win for the Braves lifted their record to 87-58.
Atlanta used the timely hitting of Jeff Kent to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Braves on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Kent said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."
