Brewers Come Up Short at Atlanta, 4-3
|
The Milwaukee Brewers could not turn a fine performance from shortstop Chris Woodward into a win. Instead, the Atlanta Braves prevailed, 4-3. Woodward hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. Ryan Rupe, the winner, improved to 6-12. He held Milwaukee to 3 runs on 4 hits over 8.1 innings, while racking up 7 strikeouts. Jimmy Gobble got the save, his 3rd in 4 chances.
Atlanta took advantage of an error in the bottom of the seventh inning. The game was tied, 3-3, when Ryan Rupe hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put the Braves in front, 4-3.
Atlanta manager Chris White commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."
The win boosted Atlanta to 71-54.
