Braves Foil Angels, 6-5
|
Though he had a terrific game, Mike Napoli could not prevent his team, the Anaheim Angels, from absorbing a loss. Atlanta won the game, 6-5. Napoli hit 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Atlanta reliever Kirk Rueter picked up the win, upping his record to 6-4. John Lackey absorbed the loss. Keith Foulke was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 29 of 32 save opportunities.
Atlanta used a timely hit from Gary Sheffield to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Braves ahead, 6-5. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Atlanta manager Chris White.
The win puts Atlanta at 67-53 this season.
