Down to Defeat Goes New York, 7-2
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the New York Mets and Oakland Athletics get after it.
Oakland Athletics starter Chan-ho Park kept the New York Mets hitters in check, leading his team to a comfortable 7-2 win. The winning pitcher was Park, now 8-5. He tossed 7.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 5.
Jermaine Dye had a big 3-run home run for the Athletics in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Oakland leading 3-1 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he sized up a sinker from 31-year old right-handed pitcher Russ Ortiz and punished it. The result was his 19th home run of the season, which put the Athletics on top, 6-1.
"I love playing this game, so you'll never see me not want to go out there and pitch," said Park.
The Oakland win streak is now 3 games.
