With Late Score, Reds Beat Braves
Despite a fine performance by catcher Herb Patterson, the Atlanta Braves lost to the Cincinnati Reds, 5-4. Patterson went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times. Cincinnati pitcher Scott Sauerbeck got the win, upping his record to 3-1. Jimmy Gobble got the loss. The win makes Cincinnati 42-55.

Cincinnati needed the clutch hitting of Nomar Garciaparra to seal the deal. The shortstop swatted a solo home run in the top of the 12th inning to put the Reds on top, 5-4. For the game, Garciaparra had 1 home run and 1 single in 6 at-bats.

"There's no quit in this team," said Reds manager Alexis Sanchez.
