San Francisco Beats Pittsburgh, 4-3
|
San Francisco picked up a win at PNC Park, bumping off the Pittsburgh Pirates, 4-3. Pitcher Daniel Cabrera was a major reason the Giants emerged victorious. Bob Howry earned the save, his 14th in 16 tries. The win boosted San Francisco to 46-43.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Jose Cruz Jr.? The 31-year old left fielder Cruz Jr. stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put San Francisco up, 4-0. For the game, he was 3 for 4, including 1 double and 2 singles.
"Daniel was doing a good job pouring in strikes," said San Francisco manager Dusty Baker.
