Atlanta Extends Series Lead in Low-Scoring Affair
|
Andy Pettitte pitched a gem to help the Atlanta Braves escape with a tight, 2-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays in a low-scoring Championship contest. The left-handed Pettitte threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball in the win, just enough for the Braves on a day when their offense dried up. Atlanta now leads the best-of-7 series 2-0.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Braves had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the third, when left fielder Gary Sheffield hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Jay Witasick and made the score 1-0, Braves. Sheffield went 1-4.
"I like our moxie," said Braves manager Chris White.
The next game is set to be played for Saturday, October 8th , 2005 at SkyDome in Toronto.
