Davis Grabs GULF Reliever of the Year Award
Wednesday, June 9th , 2004
Wade Davis said he thinks hitters often underestimate him, as he's only 18 years old.

But he'll certainly be getting a lot more respect now, as the GCL Pirates rising star has won the Gulf Coast League Reliever of the Year Award for 2004.

He captured the award on the strength of his 0.00 ERA over 20.1 innings. He also had 17 saves in 20 relief appearances, 21 strikeouts and only 4 walks.

He received 13 first place votes out of a possible 14. Phillip Andersen of the GCL Phillies finished second in voting with 1 first place vote, while Ambiorix Burgos of the Kingsport Mets finished third.

Player - Team - First Place - Total Points
Wade Davis - GCL Pirates - 13 - 68
Phillip Andersen - GCL Phillies - 1 - 36
Ambiorix Burgos - Kingsport Mets - 0 - 14
Justin Berg - GCL Royals - 0 - 8
