Velásquez Swats 3 HR Against Sullivan West Friday, August 13th , 2027 Tony Velásquez went the distance three times in the De La Salle-Sullivan West tilt at Varsity Field today, but the Spartans lost, 16-15. "Gosh, it's a shame we didn't win this game," Velásquez said later. For the day, the De La Salle left fielder went 5-for-5 against Sullivan West with 7 RBIs and 4 runs scored in a brilliant display of power hitting. "I was in a groove and every pitch they tossed up there looked like a basketball," he said. "I tell you what, I was surprised because I didn't think the last ball had enough to get out. I thought it was just going to be a long out." Tony Velásquez doubled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit a three-run home run off Yasujiro Mori in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Alfredo Castillo in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off Juan Jose Díaz in the 7th and walked in the 9th. For the season Velásquez has produced 148 hits in 392 at-bats for a .378 average with 33 home runs and gotten on base at a .456 clip. |
