5-for-7 Day for Gimenez Tuesday, July 27th , 2004 It doesn't happen very often, but it did for Chris Gimenez -- a 5-hit day. He went on a rampage and sparkled on the diamond at Yale Field, but the performance lost a little luster when the Mets were downed, 4-3, by the New Haven Ravens. After his glittering performance, the Binghamton third baseman told the press that he "just tried to get myself in a good count and have a good at-bat." His batting theory paid dividends today as he slammed 5 hits in 7 tries and put his name in the record book. "I just wish we had added a win in the record book, too," Gimenez said. Chris Gimenez singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, grounded out in the 7th, walked in the 9th, singled in the 11th, singled in the 13th and flied out in the 15th. Gimenez has collected 84 hits for the Mets this year, 11 of them home runs. He has also netted 40 RBIs and scored 31 runs while batting .249. |
