Shimizu Launches 3 HR for Golden Eagles Sunday, July 16th , 2028 It was a day for the record books for Southern Miss Golden Eagles right fielder Mitsukuni Shimizu, who walloped three out of Alumni Field against the Retrievers. However, not even a three-homer game could prevent the Retrievers from taking the 9-5 victory. "We threw some good pitches and they hit 'em, and we made some bad pitches and they hit 'em. That's a good strategy for losing ballgames," Southern Miss skipper Desmond Ball joked after the loss. Shimizu still had a few opportunities to celebrate along the way. He was 3-for-4 for the day, batting in 3 runs and scoring 3 times. "I never, ever thought I would hit three home runs," Shimizu said. "I hit three home runs once when I was 12 in Little League and I thought that was going to be the last time." Mitsukuni Shimizu hit a solo-shot off Tom Bastide in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Tom Bastide in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Bob Wilcox in the 6th and grounded out in the 8th. This season Shimizu is hitting .283 with 85 hits, 16 home runs, 62 RBIs, scored 51 runs and played in 81 games. |
