49ers Move on to College World Series Friday, October 10th , 2031 The Long Beach State 49ers triumphed 10-2 over the Lamar Cardinals at Blair Field in the College League Championship to capture it 4-2. The victory advanced the 49ers to the College World Series. For his superb play in the series, 49ers third baseman Keith Lane garnered the series MVP trophy, hitting .480, scoring 7 runs and batting in 11. "Only thing better than getting MVP for winning in the playoffs would be winning MVP for winning in the College World Series," Lane said later. "I'll get to work on that." The Long Beach State 49ers don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Illinois Fightin' Illini - LSU Tigers series. Illinois leads the series 3 games to 2.
