Hat Trick of Home Runs for Smith Friday, August 8th , 2031 The old superstition that "bad news comes in threes" certainly came true for the Sacramento State Hornets today. Arizona first baseman Clancy Smith tripled up on the home runs to propel the Wildcats to the 4-1 win at Hi Corbett Field. "We had our chances to win the game, but we just didn't come through," Sacramento State manager Loc Nguyen-Khoa said. "Smith hit the heck out of the ball." In addition to the homers, Smith collected 3 hits in 3 at-bats, 3 RBIs and scored 3 runs. "Easy swings get you home runs," he said after the game. "I kept telling myself not to press. They have to be nice and easy swings." Clancy Smith walked in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Bob Fields in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Bob Fields in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off Kenzo Ageda in the 8th. Smith is hitting .396 this year with 38 home runs and 76 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .457, 39 walks and scored 93 times. |
