The Portland relief specialist was very effective, constantly coming in and getting his club out of trouble or protecting a one-run or two-run lead. the Portland bullpen ace starred with 9 saves in 13 relief appearances, logging 16.1 innings, 9 strikeouts, 7 walks and a 1.10 ERA. Smith finished the month with 4 wins and no losses -- and was named the league's top pitcher. For the season Smith has earned 23 saves, worked 44 innings, fanned 37 hitters and recorded a 3.48 ERA.
