Vargas Bangs 3 HR Against Evansville
Saturday, June 21st , 2031
Cal State Fullerton Titans right fielder Juan Vargas sensed he was going to have a good day at the plate, but he still might have underestimated it a little.
Prior to the start of today's contest with the Evansville Purple Aces, Vargas told teammates he was sure he would hit a home run. He did -- three times.
"During batting practice I really had my swing down pat," he recalled. "I felt some thunder in the lumber."
The big day from Vargas pushed the Titans past the Purple Aces, 11-1. To go along with the homers, he collected 4 RBIs and scored 3 runs.
"I was seeing good, feeling good and swinging good," Vargas told reporters after the game.
Juan Vargas singled in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Noburo Umaba in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Chris Adams in the 5th, flied out in the 5th and hit a two-run home run off Takafumi Tanaka in the 8th.
This season Vargas is batting .314 with 19 home runs. He has scored 34 runs and driven in 44.
