Salukis End Mesa's Streak Friday, June 20th , 2031 The San Diego State Aztecs lost to the Southern Illinois Salukis 4-2 today at Tony Gwynn Stadium, but perhaps the bigger news was the end of Román Mesa's 20-game hitting streak. The first baseman went 0-for-2 on the day. "We felt if we could slow down Mesa, we would win the game," Salukis manager Ryan Klesko explained. "They really seemed to feed off his streak, so we tried to put more emphasis on shutting him down." A look at his current stats shows Mesa with a .290 average, 10 home runs, 37 RBIs and 29 runs scored. He has played in 57 games. |
