Machado Goes 5-for-5
Sunday, June 15th , 2031
The Oregon State Beavers downed the San Jose State Spartans 12-7 today at San Jose Municipal Stadium, in spite of the best efforts of San Jose State center fielder Luis Machado. Machado lashed the ball all over the park in a 5-hit explosion, finishing with a 5-for-5 line -- and a loss.

"I don't remember a better day batting, but it sure is disappointing to lose the game," he said to BNN reporters in the postgame interview. "A win would have made the day much sweeter."

Asked if he would adjust his strategy next time the Beavers face Machado, Oregon State manager Anthony Williamson said "absolutely not."

"Our strategy was to not give him good pitches to hit," he said. "We didn't do that, and he worked us over. Thankfully, we won anyway, and next time we'll pitch to him better."

Luis Machado hit a two-run home run off Phil Carlson in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Wilfried Voskuil in the 8th.

A look at his current stats shows Machado with a .367 average, 14 home runs, 53 RBIs and 42 runs scored. He has played in 58 games.
