Omaha's Niekro Wins PCL Most Valuable Player Award

2005 was a fine year for Omaha first baseman Lance Niekro and it was topped off today with the announcement that he is the winner of the Pacific Coast League Most Valuable Player Award.

Niekro starred this season with a .333 batting average, 173 hits, 50 home runs, 150 RBIs, .419 OBP and 109 runs scored.

He received 13 first place votes out of a possible 14. Kelly Johnson of the Nashville Sounds finished second in voting with 1 first place vote, while Wily Mo Pena of the Tucson Sidewinders finished third.
