Cardinals Prevail, as College Divisional Round 2 Goes to the Wire
|
The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat were on full display tonight at VincentBeck Stadium as the College Divisional Round 2 stretched to the final game.
It was the Lamar Cardinals feeling the thrill of victory, with a 10-2 win over the San Jose State Spartans, who were feeling the devastation of coming up short in their quest to make the College League Championship.
"There's no way around it -- this sucks," said San Jose State manager Roy Burns. "Congratulations to Lamar, but I won't sugarcoat it, no one is happy about anything that transpired here tonight."
Instrumental in the 3-2 series win was center fielder Flobert Addicks, who was named MVP. He hit .364 with a .417 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, drove in 3 RBI and scored 8 runs.
"We've got the most important stat of all and that's this final win -- that's the one that matters," he said.
The Lamar Cardinals will play against the Long Beach State 49ers in the next round. Long Beach State won their series against the North Dakota Fighting Hawks 3 games to 1. The College League Championship schedule will be announced after the College Divisional Round 2 finishes.
