Hits Blitz for Cougars Halyburton
|
It was a special day for Todd Halyburton at Larry H. Miller Field today. Not only did Halyburton's BYU Cougars beat the Lamar Cardinals 8-1, but the right fielder hit for the cycle along the way.
The 19-year-old Halyburton racked up 1 single, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 home run to get his name in the record books. For the game, he went 4-for-5 with 3 runs batted in and 2 runs scored.
"He hit everything we threw," said Cardinals manager Jerry Nelson. "There was just no getting him out today."
Speaking to the press after the game, Halyburton said his goal for the day had been to look for "first pitch fastballs."
"I got some good looks today," he said.
Todd Halyburton grounded out in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Joe Hardy in the 5th, singled in the 6th and hit an RBI triple in the 8th.
In his 2032 season totals, Halyburton has 1 home run, .300 BA, .382 OBP, 7 RBIs and 11 runs scored.
